Last year we campaigned to save the wild bees of Dillgesstr. in Berlin's Steglitz-Zehlendorf district. The reason for this was that the bees were severely threatened by measures of energetic remediation (see also wild bee rescue by the YLP crew).

Why was that so important to us? Because wild bees in particular are the most important pollinators in nature and are clearly superior to honeybees. About 85% of the world's plants depend on pollinators. In Europe alone, there are 4,000 vegetables that depend on them. But at present, however, many pollinators around the world are also increasingly threatened by various influences such as climate change and field poisons such as neonicotinoids. And this has an impact on biodiversity (biological diversity) and also on us humans. And by the way, they are really super-sweet :-D

In cooperation with the Lower Nature Conservation Authority of Steglitz-Zehlendorf and the Upper Nature Conservation Authority of Berlin, we succeeded in implementing measures to preserve this important wild bee aggregation. But were our efforts and measures a success? We can only see this this year when the new generation of Red Sandbees leaves their nests and starts a new cycle. But we are cautiously optimistic... because we have already seen some signs after the warm days. Even if it looks a bit shattered at times :-)
