On Monday 10.10.2016 it was time and nine weeks after the announcement of the 40 prizewinners in the Berlin area, the awards and prizes were now also awarded to HelferHerzen. The award ceremony took place in the ballroom of the Berliner Stadtmission / Jugendgästehaus at the main station, and its non-profit frame offered an ideal place to distinguish people who stand up for other people.

These were moving moments in which people were invited on stage for their clubs, initiatives and projects. Also representative of the many other projects submitted to HelferHerzen, who were not winners this year but nevertheless did a lot for our company.

For the first time, we also received an award for our commitment to education for the sustainable development of young people. This is a great opportunity to tell more about the initiative, which saved a very large aggregation of wild bees since the application and was part of a workshop at the Pupil's University of the Free University of Berlin for the first time. That was the plan, but then everything turned out to be a little different. I turned off the video camera to pick up the last minutes of the battery for our call... which of course came promptly when the camera was off :-)

Panting for the camera to turn it back on, Kathrin and I went on stage more excited than sorted. There Thomas Sonnenburg, who is already known from television as the streetworker of the street children, welcomed us and accompanied us with a TV team to get them back into the family.

The spotlights were shining and we looked into the audience.... and quite honestly, of all the words that we wanted to say in order to present the initiative more emphatically, there was hardly anything left. We were flabbergasted without end because we stood here on the stage and got our first prize for something that we do from the bottom of our hearts with all our strength and financial resources (which are extremely small and partly under the welfare rate) to continue this initiative at all.

This speech was meant for us, for the initiative that had only been evolving for a year from a slowly developing social game to a presentable internet platform for sustainable education for children and young people. By no means not perfect and still a lot to do... but a start.

The only thing we could think of saying was that we are incredibly proud to be part of this group of people in the ballroom of the city mission and also to be out there for all those who are unconditionally committed to the good of other people and society.

Our little moment of glory was over and we left the stage to our seats. Sitting again, I hardly noticed anything of the next prizewinner, but stared at the award in my lap and what it meant to me personally. In the end my eyes were wet with tears... like now, when I play this moment in front of my inner eye over and over again.

It is only with passion and a vision of change that such a project can be built and implemented against an unbelievable amount of resistance, be it of a family or financial nature. All the more we would like to thank all those who have supported us so far when it was crunching us technically, financially, legally or wherever.

Strengthened it goes on... Because Your Little Planet! is still young and, compared to the plans for the future of YLP, still incredibly small. Perhaps you will soon be part of this initiative and join us in shaping our little planet into a place that will be fairer to all living beings? We look forward to seeing you... :-)
